“A Case for Christian Education.” These words pop in my head this morning as I consider the beautiful relationships that our staff enjoys with parents who have come alongside us in the goal to disciple our young people in Christ.
It’s a privilege, yes, but a responsibility too. I look at my own four children and believe now, the words my mother would say often, “it goes too fast.” It did not go fast when I was waking in the middle of the night to change diapers. It did not go fast while struggling through math homework and corrections and having to learn things I’d forgotten all over again. It did not go fast in seasons where the car was always packed, the dishes were never done, and the to do lists never shortened.
But like days that are long and weeks that feel short, so goes our years with our children and the short opportunity we have to use every opportunity the Lord gives us to steward the gift of these children well.
The days are busy and it does us well to stop and consider at times the gift we have of a support in Christian schools. I have blind spots. If we are teachers or parents, we do too. We cover eachother. We close the gaps. We lean into the Lord and His wisdom, the very person of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30). I’m considering this morning those who have poured into my own children in the classrooms, on the athletic fields and courts, on field trips, and in homerooms. If someone has invested in my child, they always have a special place of honor in my heart and on my lips. Our children’s world is not small here at Valley. Their worlds are large and growing because they are learning to not only be recipients of their education, but investors.
Thank you for staying the course, for investing not only in the present, but the future.
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9
In Christ,
Kathy Thompson

I enjoyed this article by Timothy Fox at Summit Ministries. As our juniors and seniors will go through the “World View” curriculum before graduation, this is an excellent article to describe the reasons we want our children to be educated with the “mind of Christ.” I found the following quote is important to the heart of the article:
Metamodernism should remind the Christian of the “double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” discussed in James (James 1:8). It is a constant juggling act between often contradictory ideas and moods with no ultimate coherence.
Our students 7th-12th have memorized James chapters 1-2. I am very glad that they have! Find the article here: The Metamodern Mood
